Meet the Aston Martin V8 Vantage
The “Vantage” designation was once given to Aston Martin models that were variants of existing models, with a high-performance twist. Currently, the Vantage name is bestowed upon a lineup of the most agile, leanest cars in the Aston Martin lineup. As with all Aston Martins, the Vantage, and all its variations, are hand-built and among the most highly sought after exotic sports cars on the market.
Currently, there are a total of eight V8 Vantage variations in the brand’s list of offerings, all of which bring their own unique take to the high-powered luxury race car segment. Each one has been around for a set amount of time, and are all making their way to Aston Martin Summit as high quality used options for buyers on a less frivolous budget. Discover everything that this unique line up has to offer, and why purchasing a used version may be the perfect way for you to own a piece of Aston Martin history.
V8 Vantage Coupe
The very first available version of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage series in the United States was introduced at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show for the 2006 model year. The two-door coupe had seating for two passengers, and was composed of bonded aluminum for ultimate strength without added weight. The original V8 Vantage coupe model featured a hatchback style that increased the car’s practicality appeal, and was able to accommodate larger luggage pieces behind the two seats. This original V8 Vantage model came equipped with a 4.3-liter V8 engine capable of producing 380 horsepower and 302 lb.-ft. of torque. After the 2008 model year, a 4.7-liter engine replaced the 4.3-liter, and produces a 420 horsepower rating.
V8 Vantage Roadster
The V8 Vantage Roadster debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2006. This version of the powerful Aston Martin model had gained over two-hundred pounds compared to the initial 2006 model year coupe version, and featured the open-air styling of the roadster variant. A super-stiff cross member was added to the V8 Vantage Roadster in order to make up for the loss of a roof, and the newest edition of the car featured a retractable soft top that could be electronically raised or lowered in just 18 seconds. The V8 Vantage Roadster offered a 4.3-liter V8 engine under the hood, which produced 380 horsepower and 302 lb.-ft. of torque. Reaching a top speed of 178 miles per hour, this V8 Vantage model offered swan wing doors, an alcantara interior, and a crystal capped key fob. In true Aston Martin fashion, the V8 Vantage Roadster is as luxurious as it is powerful.
V8 Vantage Prodrive
This version of the V8 Vantage was released in 2007, and consisted of four different package options that were installed in stages. The four packages included the engine, suspension, wheels, and aerodynamics. Each one offered its own set of modifications, which boosted power, control, and performance in various ways. All packages were installed by Prodrive, but were sold by Aston Martin dealerships across the globe. For the driver who wants a truly unique version of an iconic Aston Martin vehicle, the V8 Vantage Prodrive is the answer.
V8 Vantage S
In late January of 2011, Aston Martin released its newest V8 Vantage model, known simply as S. The V8 Vantage S was available as a coupe as well as a roadster. Both were designed to produce a more sporty experience than the standard V8 Vantage model, and featured a 4.7-liter V8 engine with improved intake airflow, brand new mufflers, and reprogramming that allows the bypass valves on the car’s exhaust system to remain open for longer periods of time. This performance-enhanced V8 Vantage variant is able to produce 430 horsepower, and 361 lb.-ft. of torque, and is able to job from zero to sixty miles per hour in just four seconds flat. Also different on the V8 Vantage S model, was the inclusion of a seven speed sequential manual transmission known as the Sportshift II.
V8 Vantage GT
This version of the V8 Vantage sports car series was announced ahead of the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and was introduced as a 2015 model. The V8 Vantage GT was designed as the North American twin to the N430 coupe that was sold in other markets around the world. It was based on the standard V8 Vantage coupe, but added the suspension and 430 horsepower engine that the V8 Vantage S featured. The GT stood out on its own with unique one-of-a-kind styling features that were exclusive to this model.
V8 Vantage GTS
A special edition Vantage model, the GTS, has been released exclusively for the American market. The 2017 Vantage GTS is available as a coupe or roadster, powered by a V8 engine. Operated by either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automated transmission, the GTS further distinguishes itself, courtesy of two trim level options. The “Sport Edition” comes covered in carbon-fiber, to inspire what Aston-Martin dubs a “powerful motorsport vibe.”
Where the “Sport Edition” naturally features a sports suspension, optional on other Vantage models, the second trim, known as the “Lux Edition, rides on a “comfort suspension,” creating a softer, smoother ride. Most likely the standard operation of earlier models, now re-branded the “comfort suspension,” the “Lux Edition” gleams with a glossy black finish and features the Bang & Olufsen sound system as standard fare. For English automotive excellence, with an American twist, the Vantage GTS awaits your attention.
